History Of The Eleventh Georgia Vols Embracing The Muster Rolls Warren Kittrell J 9781245832403 Books
Only seven original copies of Kittrell Warren's little book are known to exist. One of them was obtained and scanned, page by page, and reproduced without comments to make this volume. All of the scanned pages are faint and faded, and a few short passages are illegible. It helps to keep a good magnifying glass close at hand. That said, there is no better day-by-day account of the 11th Georgia Infantry from its initial muster in Atlanta through the Battle of Fredericksburg in December 1862. Warren survived the war, so it is unfortunate that his account stops where it does and tells us nothing about 1863-65. At Boonsboro and Antietam the 11th was separated into right and left "wings" that had totally different experiences, and Warren gives us a good account of both, including the brush with 1500 yankee cavalry men who escaped Harpers Ferry and vandalized Lee's supply wagons that were being escorted just outside of Sharpsburg by one of those wings. If you are interested in the 11th Georgia Infantry, there is no substitute for Warren's little book.Product details
